Extensive political strikes in the technology industry continue into April

The Industrial Union and the Finnish Electrical Workers´ Union have announced the continuation of extensive political strikes, which began on March 11th, until April 7th. The strikes affect several industrial sectors. The Finnish Transport Workers’ Union (AKT) is also continuing the strike. In practice, all Finnish port operators are on strike, making it a nationwide strike.

Additionally, the Finnish Transport Workers’ Union (AKT) has announced a political strike at the same time. The strike practically includes all port operators in Finland's ports, making it a nationwide strike.

Trade unions are opposing the government's social security and labor market reforms with these actions.

"Companies are undergoing change negotiations and even layoffs due to a difficult situation with declining orders and demand. Each new strike action further darkens the prospects for companies and employment. Whenever export operations are deliberately weakened, the ultimate sufferer is the Finnish worker," says Jarkko Ruohoniemi, CEO of the Technology Industry Employers.

The strike from March 11th to April 7th affects the following member companies of the Technology Industry:

  • Okmetic, Vantaa
  • Outokumpu Chrome, Tornio plant
  • Outokumpu Stainless, Tornio
  • SSAB Europe, Raahe

The Finnish Electrical Workers´ Union has also announced a political work stoppage at the same time. The strike affects electricians working in the service of the above-mentioned sites or subcontractors working at these sites.
